Think you have what it takes to be a champion grape stomper? There is one way to find out!
The annual Oregon Grape Stomp Competition at Willamette Valley Vineyards is back and bigger than ever. The winners of the competition will be flown to Santa Rosa, California to compete in the World Grape Stomping Championship
Competing is much harder than it looks (just watch this video from Travel Salem):
Teams of two (one stomper & one swabber) join forces in this highly competitive event. The “Stomper”stands in a barrel full of grapes, and squishes out the juice using only feet while the “Swabber” stands below the barrel and keeps the juice flowing into the jug, pulling grape skins away from the screen, and pushing juice toward the pipe.
Last year, SalemBlock’s very own Kristi Reed of The Grand Hotel Salem and Soraida Cross of Bentley’s Grill and The Salem Conference Center took 1rst place at the 2011 Grape Stomp at Willamette Valley Vineyards.
